Free Application Opportunities at Minnesota Colleges and Universities

College Knowledge Month is a great time to get your college applications completed because most Minnesota post-secondary institutions waive application fees for the whole month or a for a period of time during this month. Free Application Opportunities at Minnesota Colleges and Universities.

Financial Aid

Students can begin to apply for financial aid on October 1st. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as you are able so that you have an idea of the amount of financial aid available to you. This will also assist colleges and universities to determine the amount of financial aid they will be able to grant you.



There are many types of scholarships available to students. These can include:

College/University Scholarships - scholarships granted by a college or university based on academic or athletic performance.

Local Scholarships - awards for students graduating from your high school and for residents of your town, county and state from organizations like Rotary Club, Lion's Club, VFW, and American Legion

State Scholarships - scholarship program for residents of Minnesota. Awards are usually limited to students who will attend college in the same state.

National Scholarships - Examples include National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Gates Millennium Scholars, Intel Science Talent Search, Coco-Cola Scholars Foundation.
